Jawaharlal Aviation Institute (JAI), at Jawahar Gardens, Lakkidi in Palakkad district, Kerala, is a DGCA CAR-147 (Basic) approved Aircraft Maintenance Engineering training institute and part of the Nehru Group of Institutions. The institute trains students in two streams: Category B1.1 (Aeroplane Turbine), covering maintenance performed on aircraft structure and powerplant, and Category B2 (Avionics), covering aircraft electrical, instrument and radio-navigation systems. Both are delivered against a syllabus and curriculum aligned to DGCA norms, so students can sit the module examinations conducted by the DGCA towards an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's licence in their stream.
The institute has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AI Engineering Services Limited, Thiruvananthapuram, under which students complete practical training on Airbus A320 and Boeing 787 aircraft. On campus, training is supported by an aircraft hangar, workshops and laboratories, and the AME programme is offered alongside a B.Sc. in Aeronautical Science.
