Bharat Institute of Aeronautics (BIA), established in 1981, is one of India’s premier Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) institutes, known for over four decades of excellence in aviation education. Located on the premises of Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna, the institute is approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and offers training aligned with global aviation standards. BIA combines modern infrastructure, experienced faculty, and extensive hands-on learning to equip students with the technical expertise needed to excel in aircraft maintenance and airworthiness roles. With strong industry recognition and a focus on practical exposure, BIA continues to shape future aviation professionals and support successful careers in the aviation sector.
Category A1 is a basic Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licence for jet engine aeroplanes. It allows the licence holder to perform minor line maintenance, defect rectification, and issue Certificate of Release to Service (CRS) for simple maintenance tasks under airline or maintenance organisation authorization.
Category B1.1 licence covers full aircraft mechanical maintenance including airframe, engine, electrical, and hydraulic systems of turbine aircraft. With type rating, engineers can certify aircraft as airworthy after maintenance.
Category B2 licence authorises maintenance, troubleshooting, and certification of aircraft avionics systems including electrical, radio, navigation, and instrument systems.
