Students applying for a DGCA Computer Number — or going through any DGCA licensing process — should be aware of an important update affecting CBSE Board Verification.
Until recently, many CBSE students could complete Board Verification using online records or DigiLocker. Based on recent applicant experiences and guidance from flying training organisations (FTOs), that route has become unreliable — CBSE's online verification system has faced prolonged downtime, and DigiLocker retrieval of CBSE records has not been consistently working. As a result, DGCA is currently accepting only physical Board Verification Certificates (BVC) issued directly by the CBSE Regional Office for CBSE qualifications.

What Changed
- Earlier: CBSE students could often complete Board Verification digitally — either through CBSE's online verification portal or via DigiLocker auto-fetch, in line with DGCA's expanded DigiLocker auto-generation policy.
- Now: Due to extended unavailability of the CBSE online verification system and inconsistent DigiLocker retrieval, DGCA is only accepting physical BVCs issued by the CBSE Regional Office for CBSE qualifications. Digital/online CBSE records are not currently being accepted as sufficient proof during scrutiny.
- Other boards are not necessarily affected the same way — ICSE and several state boards have their own separate verification processes; this update is specific to CBSE.
Why This Matters
Many applicants are receiving a shortfall notice because their online CBSE records either cannot be verified or don't match the qualifications submitted with their DGCA application. This is now one of the most common — and most avoidable — causes of delay in the Computer Number process.

If You Studied Under Two Different Boards, Read This Carefully
Mixed-board cases need special attention:
- If you completed Class 10 from CBSE and Class 12 (Mathematics) from NIOS, your NIOS documents may be accepted as submitted, but your CBSE qualification will still require a physical Board Verification from the concerned CBSE Regional Office.
- If you passed Class 12 from CBSE with Biology and later completed Mathematics through NIOS, you should also obtain a physical CBSE Board Verification for your original CBSE qualification to avoid a document mismatch during DGCA scrutiny.
The rule of thumb: any CBSE qualification in your application — even if it's not your final/deciding subject combination — needs a physical BVC right now, regardless of what route your other board's documents take.

How to Get Your Physical CBSE Board Verification Certificate
- Identify your jurisdiction. CBSE verification is handled by your CBSE Regional Office, not CBSE headquarters — there are 28 regional offices across India (plus one overseas office in Dubai). Find the regional office that covers the state/district where your school is affiliated.
- Visit in person or apply as per the regional office's process. Carry your original and attested photocopies of your Class 10 and/or Class 12 marksheets, a valid ID (Aadhaar), and be ready to state clearly that the BVC is for DGCA/Computer Number purposes.
- Get it sealed and signed. The BVC needs to be sealed and signed by the regional office — DGCA scrutiny checks for this.
- Upload it with your DGCA application. Attach the verified physical BVC to your Computer Number application on the Pariksha portal alongside your other required documents.
Important: DGCA does not issue a separate letter requesting Board Verification. Arranging the correct verification documents is entirely the applicant's responsibility — don't wait for a prompt from DGCA before starting this process.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Assuming your DigiLocker-linked CBSE marksheet is enough. It currently is not, for BVC purposes.
- Waiting until after you get a shortfall notice. Get your physical CBSE BVC before submitting your application — it typically takes several working days to process at the regional office.
- Submitting only one board's verification in a mixed-board case. Every board your qualifications come from needs its own valid BVC — CBSE's requirement doesn't disappear just because your final qualifying subject came from another board.
- Sending the BVC unsealed, or breaking the seal to check it. Regional offices issue these sealed; DGCA scrutiny may reject a broken seal.
